   SEP 1-6, 2020  

Sept 1

We drove from Springfield IL and after spending 2 nights in Maysville, MO we travelled on Rt 36, a portion on the Pony Express Trail, and entered Kansas. I thought KS would be a lot flatter! It is a bit roly poly and very green – lots of corn and soy beans. It flattened as we approached Colorado. We were surprised to learn that the time zone changes to Mountain Time for a portion of Kansas.

Sept 3

We drove nearly 7 hrs with several stops to get to Prairie Dog State Park. It’s a very quiet and pretty spot on a large reservoir with the dam visible from the “beach”.  Near to the campground is a prairie dog town which was fun to see. There is no explanation why the prairie dogs showed up as they weren’t there when the park was founded in the late 1960s.

Sept 4

On our way to our next stop, in Goodland KS we stopped at a great supermarket!! The best we’ve seen in over a week. It’s a Kroger affiliate and even had Impossible burger meat… A first for us!!

Took a walk from the CG, the Goodland KOA – Journey, to view a bit of Goodland…. Its 96 degrees so we only went far enough to get hot enough to appreciate the pool which is very chilly. Sitting on the pool step for 20 minutes and I started to get cold. I’m not sure how a small pool can be so cold when the recent weather has been so hot. Even at night it’s only in the 60s-70s but maybe that’s cool enough.

On our walk we were able to see one of the town’s icons.

Tomorrow to Golden CO. We were in Denver and Boulder in Jan 2019. The City of Golden has a small city owned RV park at the edge of town, on the river. We hope to walk around town and maybe even do take out at some restaurant there…
