   On the road again!!!

We left Onset MA after a terrific week near the beach in a small cottage with family and grandkids. So much fun….

We visited family in New Haven CT and Carlisle PA before starting the journey west. Our destination is Utah and the big 5 national parks, as well as a Utah state park in the vicinity.

The goal is not to make this a rushed trip but reservations for the national parks were made 6 months in advance, in mid-March!!! Fortunately we can make the trip with several stops for 2 or 3 nights, as well as a number of 1 nighters…. It’s so much better to have a day in between.

We stopped at several places before our first main stop of note, Springfield IL. We stayed 2 nights and had a chance to visit the Lincoln Home National Historic Site and walk by the capital building. There were few if any tourists visible. Most everyone was masked. With Covid the visitor center was closed, but we were OK with that. It’s a beautiful collection of houses along the street where Lincoln lived.

Springfield IL has a very walkable downtown area with several plazas with historical notes.  The capital building is impressive!!!!
