The highlight of today’s drive was taking a ferry from Killmer to Tarbert in order to save a 45 minute drive around through Limerick. Our destination is the Ballyseede Castle, something I discovered in the early days of planning the trip. It’s suggested no trip to Ireland is complete without a castle stay. Most of the castle stays I discovered were very expensive – $600 and upwards a night. When I discovered this castle tucked away in town of Tralee in County Kerry and it was less than $300 a night and boasted a terrific restaurant for a prix fixe dinner. I booked in March!
The location also proved a great start and end point to drive the Ring of Kerry, so two nights were reserved.
Beautiful photos are shown on the gallery provided on the website:

We had prebooked the reportedly fantastic dinner in the dining room. We even dressed up, putting on our clothes from the wedding in September. I had to wrap up in a warm and woolen shawl as it was very chilly.
Dinner was a real treat. We ordered cocktails and some wine and splurged on some steak tartare, prime roasted tenderloin and a dessert. I had the apple tarte tartin. It was delicious. It also was a very rich and filling meal, followed by a very sweet dessert. Not sure I’m used to this level of richness!
It was a great treat but we decided that for the next night’s dinner we’d go off the a la carte menu and try to eat less!
